Watch Drunk Ewan McGregor Star In Catfish And The Bottlemen’s New ‘Hourglass’ Video

In an off-kilter new music video from band of the moment Catfish and the Bottlemen, Obi-Wan Kenobi stars as Aussie-born vocalist Van McCann’s muso neighbour who pretty much writes the song Hourglass in one sitting.

However, the clip takes a turn when the turtle-neck wearing actor runs into some writer’s block on the song’s final lyric, and proceeds to do what any self-respecting artist would do in his situation: get absolutely shitfaced.

The whole thing is a highly watchable and intermittently giggle-worthy affair, but even more entertaining is the story about how it all came about. Apparently, McCann is something of a diehard McGregor fangirl and harassed the actor in a number of stalky ways until he agreed to come on board.

After cutting the original lyric video to his band’s previous single Kathleen using Ewan Mcgregor film clips, he then bombarded the actor with tweets and even produced a 10 Reasons Why I Love Ewan McGregor video, which you should definitely watch below.

The straw that broke the jedi’s back was apparently when the band added McGregor’s face to their drum skin and toured with it. The actor then relented and took them all out for breakfast, and since then he’s seen them live, jammed with them, and now taken up the starring role in their delightful new music video (below).

“Honestly working with Sir Ewan was one of the funnest things I think i’ll ever get to do. He’s the most interesting and interested guy I’ve ever met,” McCann posted on the band’s Facebook page. “He’s just fucking brilliant. Total gentleman!

“When people tell you not to meet the people you look up to, FUCK THATTTTTTTTT!” he continued. “He genuinely buzzes off the band. Sends me photos of him listening to us before he walks onstage on his endless run of sold out broadway. AND HE LIKES MY LYRICS! Honestly, I love him. It all makes me laugh my head off! …Videos for us are hard as we’ve got Austin Powers heads but this was just fucking class craic!”

Hourglass comes hot off Catfish and the Bottlemen’s forthcoming album. Catch the band at Splendour In The Grass 2015 festival and headlining sideshows this July.
