Blues legend B.B. King died on Thursday evening in his Las Vegas home at the age of 89, his lawyer says.
Reports the AP, King’s Attorney Brent Bryson says that the musician died peacefully in his sleep at 9:40 p.m. Thursday at his home in Las Vegas.
The legendary blues singer and pioneering musician recently returned to his Las Vegas home after he was admitted to hospital and was treated for high blood pressure and diabetes. That was the second time in a month that King had been admitted to hospital.
His health had been in decline for some time and the 89-year-old musician has lived with Type II diabetes for more than 20 years.
Having begun his recording career in the 1940s, B.B. King has released more than 50 albums, won 15 Grammy awards over his lifetime and until very recently continued to play shows. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987.
He was born Riley B King, in Mississippi on September 16th, 1925.
No statement has yet been provided from King’s family.
