First Laneway Festival 2016 Act Confirmed

Laneway Festival 2015 doesn’t feel like it was all that long ago, and now much-buzzed electronic producer Hudson Mohawke (real name Ross Birchard) has already confirmed his place on the Laneway Festival 2016 lineup.

In a recent interview with Stoney Roads, the Scottish musician let the news slip, saying, “I don’t know if it’s been announced yet but we’ll be at Laneway next summer for you guys.”

By “we”, Birchard means his new live show, which features Two Door Cinema drummer Ben Thompson and London producer Redinho on keys. With the new show ready to go, Birchard said he’s excited to return down under, with Laneway opening up opportunities for new collaborations.

“I’ve done a number of festivals over there and I love the idea of touring festivals where the same line up goes to a bunch of different cities. That’s where I’ve met a bunch of people that I’ve collaborated with,” Birchard said.

“I find that sort of concept of the touring festival as a really good chance to meet people – a lot of festivals you come in, play your set and you leave. But with this you’re with a group of people for two or three weeks. It’s great and you get a chance to bond.”

Birchard released his second album as Hudson Mohawke, titled Lantern, today. He performed at Perth’s Origin NYE festival last year, and Victoria’s Let Them Eat Cake Festival on the first day of the new year.

Laneway Festival 2015 featured performances from the likes of Caribou, FKA twigs, Flying Lotus and Courtney Barnett. The first hints at possible inclusions on the 2016 lineup arrived in March, with the announcement of the festival’s fifth annual South By Southwest party.
