Deadmau5 Is Legally Attempting To Stop ‘Deadmouse: The Musical’

Joel Zimmerman, better-known as DJ and producer Deadmau5, is attempting to stop what could be one of the hallmark musicals of our generation – Deadmouse: The Musical.

The parody-musical was set to premiere at the Toronto Fringe Arts Festival, however, Deaudmau5’s lawyers have issued a cease and desist letter to the musical’s hosting-venue, the Al Green Theatre, claiming that Deadmau5 “cannot allow the use of the mark “Deadmouse”.”

Addressing the matter on Twitter Deadmau5 wrote, “while i appreciate their intent, they REALLY went about this the wrong way and dont fully understand how this diminishes certain endeavours.”

According to the production’s website it “is a musical about a mouse who wants to be a house DJ but is discriminated against for being a mouse. It does not feature the music of Deadmau5. Think Ratatouille meets Book of Mormon.”

It features a cast of cheese and EDM-loving characters including Joel Zimmermouse, David Goudda and Avicheese.

The website claims that it “was written out of love of house music culture.” While the musical sounds like an utter stroke of genius, the cease and desist puts a serious cloud of doubt over the production. The Al Green Theatre is yet to comment, however, tickets are still available to buy.

Below is a rough reading of the musical just in case we never get to see it come to life.
