Cheech & Chong Cancel Australian Tour As Tommy Chong Battles Cancer

Cheech & Chong were due to perform their first Australian show of their tour tonight in Brisbane but they have unfortunately had to cancel at the last minute.

Tour promoters have released a statement notifying punters that, “due to a serious health issue the upcoming Cheech & Chong Up In Smoke – The Greatest Hits Tour has been cancelled.”

Earlier this week one half of the stoner-duo Tommy Chong told US Weekly that he had been diagnosed with rectal cancer.

“I’m in treatment now,” he said. “Either I get healed or I don’t. But either way, I’m going to make sure I get a little edge off or put up.”

Chong then took to Twitter overnight to announce that he has “good news and bad news.”

“First the bad news, the cancer came back and it’s a real pain in the butt,” he wrote. “The good news is I now have to use more marijuana to treat the cancer.”

He added, “I will be documenting my cancer fight on the Chong and Chong podcast to let my fans know how the fight is going. Please wish me luck while I kick cancer’s behind. Thank you for all of your love and support.”

Chong first battled prostate cancer in 2012.

The tour was set to celebrate four decades since the release of the pair’s first comedy film Up In Smoke. They were due to play shows in Brisbane, Sydney, Adelaide, Melbourne and Perth.

Tickets holders can request refunds at the point of purchase.
