Nile Rodgers Busked In London And Earnt £12.30

Disco legend Nile Rodgers took to the streets of London over the weekend to try his hand at busking.

The day after performing in the British Summer Time Hyde Park concert to the masses, Rodgers set up in Southbank with his guitar and ran through a number of his biggest hits to a small but amused crowd.

A video of the performance shows Rodgers playing Sister Sledge’s We Are Family, Diana Ross’ I’m Coming Out, Daft Punk’s Get Lucky and Madonna’s Like A Virgin.

Despite the fact he was the brain behind most of those songs, many didn’t seem to recognise him and in 20 minutes he only collected £12.30 (about $25). Still, if you do the maths, that’s a respectable $75 an hour.

Afterwards, Rodgers tweeted that he started out busking when he was homeless. “I truly used to like busking. I made a decent living and some lifelong friends,” he added.

According to the YouTube video description, the impromptu street performance was part of a new show on UK’s Sky TV Channel, Guitar Star. The show endeavours to find “extraordinary guitar talent of all ages and styles.”

Those unique Nile Rodgers’ guitar licks also feature in the super tasty new Duran Duran single, Pressure Off, which also features Janelle Monae and was produced by Mark Ronson.
