Coheed And Cambria Announce New Album, Stream First Single ‘You Got Spirit, Kid’

In a break from tradition, delightfully nerdy prog-metalheads Coheed and Cambria will release a new, non-concept album in October.

Entitled The Color Before The Sun, it will be the band’s eighth studio album and is an offering outside of the ongoing Amory Wars, or the sci-fi universe that Coheed and Cambria’s previous albums have all inhabited. It’s first single You Got Spirit, Kid has been released and the digital download of the single will be available on 10th July.

Vocalist and guitarist Claudio Sanchez said the new album marks the first time he has explored his personal feelings in music. “I kind of want people to know that Coheed can write that sort of record. I’ve always said in the past that there’s never been a limitation on the band. It makes no sense to me to draw a line in the sand and never cross it.”

The Color Before The Sun was recorded at St. Charles Studio in Nashville with production by Jay Joyce (Cage The Elephant, Eric Church).

The band also added to the long line of musicians supporting marriage equality recently in a new song tackling US Same-Sex Marriage rulings and the Affordable Care Act, by satirically putting conservative US Supreme Court Justice Scalia’s words to music (below).

The Color Before The Sun is out on the 9th of October via 300 Entertainment.
