Millionaire 50 Cent Has Filed For Bankruptcy After Leaking A Sex Tape

As well as his hip-hop monicker, it seems 50 Cent is also Curtis Jackson III’s net worth. The rapper has reportedly filed for bankruptcy in the US after a court ordered him to pay $US5 million (AUD$6.74 million) for leaking a sex tape that wasn’t his.

The star of Get Rich Or Die Tryin apparently acquired the tape from the lover of Lastonia Leviston – who has a child with his hip-hop rival, Rick Ross – and posted it online without her permission.

But that’s not all, Fiddy also gave himself a starring role in the tape as a wig-wearing narrator named “Pimpin’ Curly” and added his own colourful overdubs, in which he basically just taunted the crap out of Ross.

Despite being named in Forbes‘ list of the top 5 richest hip-hop stars of 2014, thanks to a series of top-selling releases and a savvy investment in vitamin water, Fiddy is now estimated to be up to $50 million in debt, and has thus filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. However, it doesn’t look likely to affect his work in the entertainment industry.

“Mr Jackson’s business interests will continue unaffected in the ordinary course during the pendency of the Chapter 11 case,” his lawyer, William Brewer III, said in a statement (via Fairfax). “This filing for personal bankruptcy protection permits Mr Jackson to continue his involvement with various business interests and continue his work as an entertainer.”

Fairfax further reports that Fiddy may be liable for more punitive damages in Lastonia Leviston’s invasion-of-privacy lawsuit against him, but his filing for bankruptcy seems to have put those proceedings on hold, for now.

If worse comes to worse, there’s always the option of a professional baseball career.
