Blink-182 To Head Into The Studio With Matt Skiba Very, Very Soon

Blink-182 bassist and vocalist Mark Hoppus has confirmed that the band will head into the studio very soon — we’re talking this August — with Alkaline Trio’s Matt Skiba, who has replaced former Blink guitarist Tom Delonge.

Hoppus briefly mentions Blink’s upcoming sessions in a recent interview with Billboard, exciting Blink fans the world over with yet another tiny update on the progress of the band’s next album.

Having already been ruled out of the Soundwave 2016 lineup, and with studio sessions now slated for August, the next time Blink-182 hit Aussie shores, should they ever, will most likely be with new music in tow.

Blink-182’s latest album, Neighborhoods, was released in 2011. The band’s highly anticipated follow-up album has seen a number of delays, with the group working on new material in 2013 and later saying their goal was to have a new record out before their appearance at the 2014 Reading and Leeds festivals.

Blink-182 have gone through a “friendly divorce” with Delonge since then, and Hoppus has continued to dabble in the world of film scoring.

In his interview with Billboard, Hoppus discusses his film scoring debut, which has seen him write the music for a four-minute stop-motion animated short called I’m Scared, directed by Pete Levin.

If the film is developed into a full-length feature, Hoppus says he is open to scoring the feature-length movie. “I want to cut my teeth and get into that whole world and build up my chops,” he says.

So with more and more Blink side projects in the works, let’s just hope the next Blink album doesn’t take too much longer.
