White House Shut Down Petition Asking President Obama To Make Kanye West Release His New Album

Great people of the internet this week started a petition to make US President Barrack Obama order the release of Kanye West‘s seventh album, tentatively titled SWISH, next week, but as quickly as they have risen, the mighty have fallen and unfortunately the petition has been stopped.

“Kanye West has kept us thirsty for too long,” the petition said, according to Billboard.

“We haven’t gotten any new singles in months. The President should order Ye to drop the album on the date August 21st, as his producer Mike Dean has been teasing people about.”

The petition was posted on The White House’s We The People site. The site requires Obama’s administration to respond to any petitions that receive more than 100,000 signature in 30 days, but while the petition gathered thousands of signatures in just a few days, the White House shut it down.

They removed the petition claiming that it was a violation of We The People’s terms of participation. That does unfortunately mean that there will be no presidential order directed at Kanye next week.

Think about it though, if the US President actually ordered album releases maybe we wouldn’t have had to wait 16 years for a Dr. Dre album and Frank Ocean would be hurrying up with his follow-up to Channel Orange, which was meant to arrive last month. Maybe even Obama could nudge The Avalanches towards releasing that illusive new album. There’s something to be said about executive orders.

There are no clues about when Kanye’s SWISH – if it’s still called that – will actually arrive. Producer Mike Daen said that the album was making progress, however, it’s not finished. “Whenever Kanye says it’s done, it’s done,” he said.
