Tasmania’s MONA FOMA Announces 2016 Return

MONA FOMO, or MOFO for short, is undergoing a facelift for its 2016 return and re-emerging as “a new beast” according to organisers.

The Museum of Old and New Art’s (MONA) Festival of Music and Art (FOMA) will go down in January with a display of percussion, spoken word, and furious fusions of music and art.

It’s all set to centre around Hobart’s MONA with events also scheduled to take place in venues around the city from January 13th to 18th.

Curated by Brian Ritchie of the Violent Femmes and The Break, the festival promises to utilise all of MONA, from the gallery itself to a vault 14 metres underground. “Mofo asks you to surrender to music, sound, sight and space,” says Ritchie.

“Mona plus music creates one big pulsing organism. Whether you are a regular visitor or first-timer, Mofo 2016 will show off Mona in unimaginable ways.”

Last year’s lineup featured the likes of Swans, Amanda Palmer and Paul Kelly but your guess is as good as ours for who will turn up next year to this “new beast.” The full lineup will drop in October.
