Hear Lana Del Rey Channel David Bowie In Haunting New Song, ‘Terrence Loves You’

Lana Del Rey has given us yet another lick of her forthcoming fourth studio LP, Honeymoon.

The noir-pop songstress’s latest, Terrence Loves You is possibly the most retro-sounding track we’ve heard so far off the new record, with the kind of melancholy, slurring melodies, theatrical string accompaniments and moaning saxophone flourishes that could have it easily mistaken for a Dinah Shore or Judy Garland cover.

Del Rey’s heavily reverbed vocals are fragile with sadness in this brand new track which brims with the kind of manufactured nostalgia that we’ve come to expect (and adore) from her work.

Lyrical references to Old Hollywood and even a nod to David Bowie circa Space Oddity (“Ground control to Major Tom”) also help the effort.

It’s much more stylistically similar to the disc’s previously-released string-laden title track than its first official single High By The Beach, the official video for which sees Del Rey go full Rambo on a paparazzi chopper, just by the by.

Either way, we’re sure James Franco would approve.

According to Rolling Stone, Del Rey’s 13-track Honeymoon LP will close with an actual cover of the Nina Simone classic Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood.

The singer has also just revealed the disc’s official cover art, which features her chilling in a “StarLine Tours” taxi cab. While the phone number listed on the vehicle – 1-800-268-7886 – is currently inactive (not that we tried calling or anything), Stereogum reports that dialling it could later activate some form of “Honeymoon Hotline.”

The follow-up to Lana Del Rey’s acclaimed 2014 Ultraviolence LP will reach our ears on Friday, September 18th.
