The National Have Started Work On A New Album

Despite their other side projects, The National have begun work on a new album frontman Matt Berninger has told NME.

Still working on his side project EL VY with Menomena‘s Brent Knopf, Berninger nevertheless had some time to talk about The National, the new album and how it’s all shaping up.

“We did a camp out retreat in New York a couple of months ago, and we’re having another one in LA in a few weeks. We have 30 sketches of songs so far.”

Taking inspiration from their surroundings, the band have been using the names of various towns in upstate New York as working titles for songs. As dreary as that may sound, considering the often cinematic nature of their music, one wouldn’t be surprised if the titles stick.

The news of the album comes as the band gear up to headline Byron Bay’s Bluesfest next year, returning to Australia for an exclusive festival set, following their triumphant 2014 national tour that saw them play to sold out crowds in Sydney’s Opera House Forecourt and other venues across the country.
