Finally, one lone hero is standing up for the trampled dreams of party-going white males everywhere. Too long have his people been disallowed entry to nightclubs across the country, purely on the basis of their lack-of-being-a-hot-chick-ness. Melbourne’s Joshua Findley is sick of the discrimination, and he’s decided to fight back.
The law student is suing Swanston Street venue the Curtin House, after he was allegedly refused entry to the Cookie and Rooftop bars for having “too many guys” in his group.
As the Herald Sun reports, Findley and his three mates — two guys and one girl — claim they were turfed from the nightspot, something which they reckon, had they all been ladies, would not have happened.
“The bouncer explicitly said there were too many guys in our group,” Findley told The Sun. “There is no doubt that had we all been female, we would have been let in… My friends and I were planning on a good night… Due to discrimination this was not allowed to happen.”
The disgruntled student has now filed a suit with the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal, which deals with disputes about discrimination and consumer affairs, to take the bar to task for its allegedly “discriminatory” policy against the male persuasion.
“There are bars … (that) have certain policies that ensure there are more women in the venue than men,” he said. “Most would create another reason for refusal … In this instance, the bouncer explicitly said there were too many guys in our group.”
But Rooftop’s Grant Gould has hit back, claiming that the group got refused entry not because of their overabundance of dicks, but because two of them seemed intoxicated.
“I believe there may be a misunderstanding,” he said in an email. “Your group were not denied entry based on gender. I have viewed the CCTV footage and a number of male patrons do indeed gain entry. It’s evident males were not being subject to any alleged discrimination.”
However, Findley and his two male mates have all signed affidavits saying none of them were drunk, and that the secca didn’t mention anything to them about alleged intoxication.
A compulsory mediation conference between both parties has been set down for November 12th. And while the civil claim has been lodged squarely against Curtin House Rooftop, which sits on the top floor of the complex, it’s expected that both the building’s two other venues and the associated security company will also be drawn into the unfolding legal drama.
