Two Huge International Acts Announced For Melbourne Music Week 2015

Melbourne Music Week has given us a sneaky taste of what lies in store for this year’s event, unveiling two massive international acts on their 2015 bill: San Francisco psych-rock royals The Brian Jonestown Massacre and Berlin sound-art genius Robert Henke of Monolake fame.

According to a press release, the artists have been tapped by MMW because they hail from “two cities with world class music reputations akin to Melbourne’s own” and represent “opposite ends of the music spectrum”.

The Anton Newcombe-led Brian Jonestown Massacre are already set to visit Australia this November on their 25 Year Silver Jubilee Tour, but will put in a very special performance on Sunday, 15th November as part of Music Week festivities at the Melbourne Town Hall, incorporating the city’s historic Grand Organ into their live show.

While Henke, who creates groundbreaking techno productions under the Monolake moniker, will make his Australian debut at the event, with an exclusive MMW performance of his laser-show Lumière II at Melbourne Recital Centre on Thursday, 19th November, together with a special behind-the-scenes exhibition on Friday, 20th.

The event’s Chair of Marketing, Councillor Beverley Pinder-Mortimer has welcomed their inclusion: “Year after year MMW transforms the city into a musical playground and these two acts are sure to impress audiences,” she said.

“Melbournians are sure to be impressed by these unique performances and we look forward to the release of the full program, and the bespoke MMW flagship venue, in October.”

The Brian Jonestown Massacre and Robert Henke will be joined by a selection of local performers and other international guests at this year’s event, which will run from Friday, November 13th – Friday, November 20th.

The big reveal of Melbourne Music Week’s full program will happen next month, while initial tickets are on sale now.
