Tijuana Cartel Announce New Album ‘Psychedelicatessen’ & National Tour

Gold Coast indie duo Tijuana Cartel have announced their new album Psychedelicatessen while also locking in a list of national tour dates in support of their brand-new tunes.

Psychedelicatessen is Tijuana Cartel’s tribute to Russell Guy’s cult classic Aussie radio play What’s Rangoon To You Is Grafton To Me and the play’s legacy as an Aussie gonzo rant.

“I was strangely nervous about approaching Russell to ask him to use his material,” says Tijuana Cartel’s Paul George.

“He was this edgy, gonzo hippie from my adolescent imagination so I didn’t know quite what to expect or what approach to take.”

So what does Guy think of Psychedelicatessen?

“This new album pings on cruise control as it translates, engages and navigates the worldwide plague of earthquakes, terrorism, crime, corruption, scoffers, mockers, volcanic eruptions and psycho-babble, while segueing into a groove that the Gobble-up Machine can’t follow,” he says.

Tijuana Cartel’s Carey Sullivan says the pair are always trying to reinvent themselves. “We set out to make every Tijuana Cartel album completely different from the last, we like to take in new inspirations and push ourselves as songwriters and producers,” he says. “It’s just how we’ve always done it.”

Taking Psychedelicatessen on the road, Tijuana Cartel will be hitting up 14 venues around the country beginning on Friday, 21st August. Psychedelicatessen will then be released on 4th September. Catch the album’s first single alongside Tijuana Cartel’s upcoming tour dates, below.
