Jamie xx is kicking off the New Year with a trip to Australia, with plans to hit the festival circuit harder than the Play button.
Armed with his new album In Colour, the English producer will grace the stages of the Lost Paradise (NSW), Beyond The Valley (Victoria) and inaugural FOMO (Queensland) music festivals.
But he’s just decided to cut Melbourne in on the action as well, giving the live music capital a bit of extra love with a one-off headlining show scheduled at the city’s iconic Forum Theatre on Sunday, 10th January.
The show will be Jamie xx’s biggest Australian headlining show to date, and the beat master has told triple j that punters will most likely be treated to new material during all of his Aussie performances.
“Oh yeah, I’m always making stuff on tour as well so I usually drop new things as I go,” he says.
And while his solo record, In Colour, is still racking up the accolades, the 26-year-old DJ is also busing working on his band The xx’s third studio album, the follow up to 2012’s Coexist, and pushing their sound forward.
“I always wanted it to be a progression, but we just want to write the best songs we can,” he explains. “[It’s] going really well, just writing more songs, finishing songs that we’ve written before”.
Pre-sale tickets to Jamie xx’s Melbourne headlining show will be available from 8am on Tuesday, 6th October for Handsome Tours subscribers, with General Admission tickets on sale from 9am Friday, 9th October.
