Watch The National Premiere Smouldering New Song ‘Roman Candle’ Live

The National have unveiled a tasty scoop of the fresh new material that they’ve been working on, presumably for their forthcoming seventh studio album.

Matt Berninger & co pulled the surprise new setlist addition out of their proverbial hats during a Los Angeles benefit show for Cooperative Education, a charity co-founded by the frontman’s cousins.

The tune, dubbed Roman Candle, is an unsurprising slow-burner, with dark vocal melodies and contemplative guitars.

Despite their other side projects, The National revealed back in August that they’d begun working on the follow-up to 2013’s Trouble Will Find Me, and had around “30 sketches of songs so far”.

Watch footage of the band performing Roman Candle below, and make sure to catch them when they come visit us for Bluesfest 2016 next year.
