Have Grinspoon Secretly Announced Their Headline Reunion Show?

It looks like the newly reunited Grinspoon may have hatched a plan to perform together later this week, in what appears to be a secret warm-up gig, which, if legit, would be their first headline show together since going on hiatus almost two years ago.

Grinspoon broke Chemical Hearts everywhere in December 2013 when they announced an indefinite hiatus, but the group have this week announced a reunion show for a group called Hubcap, which was Grinspoon’s original band name.

Hubcap and/or Grinspoon have locked in a show at Byron Bay’s The Northern for this Thursday, 22nd October, and Grinspoon members are promoting it left and right. Sharing the news on Twitter, frontman Phil Jamieson said:

Guitarist Pat Davern also said:

When Silverchair drummer Ben Gillies cheekily asked Davern about the show, the guitarist left an equally cheeky reply:

Adding even more weight to the idea that this could be a secret Grinspoon show, Hubcap’s support act on the night of their Byron Bay show is High Horse, a band which includes Grinspoon bassist Joe Hansen.

Interestingly, the Oztix ticket page for Hubcap’s reunion show doesn’t feature any description of the band, and instead includes a description and photo High Horse. Funny that.

Grinspoon announced in August that they were reuniting to support fellow Aussie rock legends Cold Chisel at some of their Australian headline shows this November and December.

If the cryptically announced Hubcap headline show is actually a Grinspoon show, though, the group’s reunion might come a little early, and to the delight of local fans. If not, it could just be one big, mean joke.
