Joanna Newsom Announces 2016 Australian Tour

You and my favourite harp playing indie darling Joanna Newsom has just announced she’ll be touring our way in 2016, off the back of her fourth studio album Divers, released today.

It’s only a short visit though, Newsom only stopping in Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney, playing once again in the Sydney Opera House concert hall as part of the 2016 Sydney Festival Program.

The first we’ve heard from Newsom since she dropped her epic 2010 triple album Have One On Me, Divers has already got the music press fawning over it in a rush of colourful metaphors. To Pitchfork, the album is “not a puzzle to crack, but a dialog that generously articulates the intimate chasm of loss”. Lyrical journalism aside, Divers is a tour de force from an incredible talent too long absent from our hearts and ears.

With two singles already doing the rounds, from what we’ve seen so far the scope of the album is enormous. Enlisting the likes of Paul Thomas Anderson (There Will Be Blood, Boogie Nights) and visual artist Kim Keever on the videos for Sapokanikan and Leaving The City respectively, Newsom’s hiatus has clearly left her inspired and invigorated to refine her work and collaborate with others.

Tickets go on sale next Monday 26th of October at 9am, in the meantime you can check out the video for Sapokanikan below the tour details here.
