The Preatures’ Gideon Bensen Drops Solo Single ‘All New Low’, Announces Tour Dates

The Preatures‘ guitarist/vocalist Gideon Bensen has surprised everyone, releasing a solo single titled All New Low alongside dates for some solo headline shows.

Released on his own label Puncture Records and produced by Tony Buchen (Montaigne, Mansionair), the track sees Bensen embracing a more electronic sound and is but a taste of what is to come, with Bensen having written a number of songs while on tour recently with The Preatures.

All New Low, took everything out of me. While on tour with The Preatures, I found myself working on tracks more and more, up at all hours, in transit, in hotel rooms, wherever I could setup. I was obsessed,” said Bensen in a statement.

“I felt like I wanted to push myself more. I had some time in Sydney between tours so I contacted my old friend and producer, Tony Buchen with some songs and ideas for an 80’s/90’s new wave/soul record. I told him, ‘if I do it I have to go all out. I don’t want to sound like I ever have before’.”

Taking a lot of influence from hip hop and beatmaking while working on the tracks, his new music is very much a departure from his blues and rock style work with The Preatures. “It’s a world I never really explored until now,” he said of the process. “I was inspired by acts like N.W.A, Bomb da Bass, Kendrick Lamar, Flying Lotus and D’Angelo’s Black Messiah and wanted to incorporate that into what I was doing”.

What’s a side project without some famous guest stars though, Bensen having enlisted the likes of Megan Washington to perform back up vocals with The Tambourine Girls drummer Carlos Adura tracking drums as well.

Keeping it within the family though, Bensen also enlisted The Preatures guitarist Jack Moffit to add some tasty fretwork to the songs, with Mike Mogis (Bright Eyes, The Faint) handling mixing duties, and Leon Zervos (Wu Tang Clan, Beastie Boys) handling the mastering.

Launching the project with some one off shows in Sydney and Melbourne in February of next year, tickets are on sale, with full details here below.
