Bask In The Glory That Is The Metalhead Emoji

Following on from news last week that the metal horns emoji had finally landed on smart phones the world over, it seems Finland has taken it a step further, with plans to release a metal head emoji just in time for Christmas. ‘Cos you know, nothing screams Christmas like a windmilling metal head in full flight.

In case you are wondering why a nation state is releasing an emoji, the metal head emoji is part of a release of 24 new emojis of things that represent Finland. That’s right, metal heads are now pretty much one of the mascots of Finland, fitting considering the county’s wealth of heavy music.

According to Petra Theman, Director of Public Diplomacy “the Finland emojis were designed with a tongue-in-cheek approach, but I hope that they will tell the world not only about our special features but also something about our strengths.”

But wait, it gets better, the emoji is set to be released as part of an advent calendar released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. So, while Fins are counting down the days of Christmas, they can stick a spike-wearing horn-throwing heavy metal fan right next to their national symbols alongside a sauna and a Nokia phone.

Meanwhile the Australian government languishes in action, with no word from Malcolm Turnbull on when we can expect the southern cross tattoo and drunken chunder emojis.
