NOFX Soundwave 2016 Sideshows Announced

UPDATE 18/12/15: NOFX have cancelled both of their Soundwave 2016 sideshows, and have apologised to fans. NOFX member Eric Melvin’s post-Soundwave shows as part of Punk Rock Karaoke have also been cancelled.

UPDATE 17/12/15 5.50pm: Soundwave 2016 has been officially cancelled. It’s unclear at this point what that means for all the festival’s scheduled sideshows. We’ll bring you the information as soon as it develops.

NOFX have dropped a deuce of sideshows to compliment their appearance at Soundwave 2016… but they’re probably not where you’d think.

As well as performing at the Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney legs of Australia’s biggest heavy metal festival, the Californian punk rock veterans are also set to play headlining shows in… wait for it… Canberra and Hobart.

That’s right, fans in the oft-overlooked ACT and Tassie will be getting some extra love from Fat Mike & co, with the band explaining that they feel as though they’d “skipped some fundamental cities on their last national tour”, and promising “a night of mayhem, debauchery, and some music!”

NOFX’s sideshows are the first to be announced for the 2016 Soundwave festival, and it’s unclear at this point whether or not the band will add any extra dates in the usual sideshow hotspots.

Festival boss AJ Maddah previously tweeted that punters would be unlikely to see as many sidewaves in 2016, predicting “3 in Brisbane, none in Sydney and 4 to 5 in Melbourne”, plus a killer 4-band metal bill in Perth. Guess we’ll just have to wait and see how it all plays out.

NOFX were one of the major attractions of the first Soundwave lineup announcement, which has since been supplemented with the addition of Killswitch Engage, Ill Nino and Terror Universal.

Tickets to their SW16 sideshows go on sale from 9am this Friday, 20th November.
