West Coast Blues N Roots Cancelled For 2016, Returning Rebranded In 2017

The West Coast Blues N Roots festival is taking a year off in 2016, and has announced it will return the following year after making some big changes and rebranding itself under the new name of Freo’s Blues Roots & Beyond.

The announcement comes after the 12th annual West Coast Blues N Roots shindig took place in March this year, and event organisers say the changes planned for the event are the biggest the festival has since since its inception back in 2003.

When Freo’s Blues Roots & Beyond finally arrives in 2017, it’s promising to have undergone a huge makeover, with a new and more open space in the heart of Fremantle.

Freo’s Blues Roots & Beyond will introduce passouts, meaning that festival-goers will be able to come and go as they please and will have the chance to enjoy music and hospitality from outside the festival hub. Artists will also be booked for local venues to offer more intimate experiences around town.

As for the artists themselves, the event’s new name suggests it will expand beyond what it’s traditionally stuck to, which this year included the likes of John Butler Trio, Charles Bradley, Paolo Nutini, David Gray, and Jurassic 5.

Freo’s Blues Roots & Beyond is set to make its debut in April 2017. Catch the full statement from organisers, below.
