Justin Vernon’s Bon Iver have only played one show since 2012 but it looks like things are heating up as the band have announced seven dates in Asia for early 2016.
The band will play in Singapore, Hong Kong, South Korea, China, Japan and Taiwan in February/March 2016, which would place them much closer to Australia in a geographical sense. Often artists tie their Asian and Australian tours together. For example, it’s not uncommon for artists who play Fuji Rock in Japan to then make the trip to Splendour In The Grass.
Earlier this year, Bon Iver played their first show in three years at Justin Vernon’s Eaux Claires festival where they debuted two new songs which have found their way onto YouTube.
Despite this, Vernon told Grantland in July of this year that in terms of a new album, “we just don’t have any plans.”
Their last album was 2011’s self-titled effort which earned them a Grammy for Best Alternative Album. Since then Vernon has released music with his other band Volcano Choir and also dropped a hip-hop project.
If you’ve been a fan of Bon Iver from the start, you’ll know that it’s pretty hard to predict their next move so it’s completely unknown yet as to whether this tour is a one-off thing or a sign of more dates to come. Here’s hoping for the latter.
