Petition Launched To Make Parkway Drive’s ‘Vice Grip’ Australia’s New National Anthem

It seems that 2016 will be the year of the petition, following on from recent efforts to have Shannon Noll appear at Groovin’ The Moo and to name a newly discovered heavy metal element ‘Lemmium’ after recently passed Motorhead frontman Lemmy Kilmister.

Now,  a new change.org campaign has emerged up, appealing to the nation to name Parkway Drive‘s song Vice Grip Australia’s new national anthem.

The people want what they want.

“It’s been out for 7 months now m8,” reads the short but sweet appeal. “Get a stubby and your aussie flag thongs and listen to some pwd. Do it for the Aussie Battlers. Aussie government. You know the choice you have to make.

Keep The Flame Alive”

While Vice Grip didn’t quite manage to crack the top 50 in yesterday’s triple j Hottest 100 countdown, falling just out at number 58, at 517 supporters (and counting) out of the required 1000, the movement to give it the country’s top spot is growing.

What more do you need to get on board Australia? As one supporter commented: “It’s fucking Parkway.” Plus, Vice Grip would be so much better than the bloated monstrosity that is Advance Australia Fair.

Also, if we’re offering up new anthem suggestions, my choice would be very simple – Highway To Hell by AC/DC – as it’s the only song that truly describes what it’s been like grow up in post-John Howard Australia.

Anyway that’s enough of my embittered griping, put your hand on your heart while checking out the video for Vice Grip – from Parkway Drive’s 2015 studio album Ire – here below.
