Iggy Pop Says His New Album With Josh Homme May Be His Last

Iggy Pop may have already recorded his final LP.

The 68-year-old Stooges legend has revealed that his new album Post Pop Depression – a collaboration with Queens Of The Stone Age’s Josh Homme and Dean Fertita, plus Arctic Monkeys’ Matt Helders – may be his last.

In a new interview with Beats1 for Apple Music (via NME), he said, “I feel like I’m closing up after this. That’s what I feel. It’s my gut instinct.”

But just because Pop might be retiring from the album game, doesn’t mean he’s thinking about quitting music altogether.

“If you call me and you want to work out a deal to come and sing Happy Birthday at your mother’s, something like that I’ll refer you to someone,” he said. “But to really make a real album you really have to put everything into it and the energy’s more limited now.”

He added: “The kind of artist I am, I’ve got something I can bring but it’s really about other people I can put together. I’m kind of a fan, too, I like to hang out, I like to be in bands, I like to hang around musicians.”

Pop recently teamed up with Australia’s own Kylie Minogue for a song on the pop diva’s new Christmas album.

His 17th (and potentially final) studio LP Post Pop Depression has been scheduled for release on March 18th after being recorded in secret last year.

Pop recently appeared with his allstar band – Homme, Fertita and Helders – on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert to premiere the disc’s debut single Gardenia live.

The supergroup will also be playing a handful of live dates around the globe, with Homme on record as saying that they’ll only perform in “small, beautiful theatres where their presence might still seem disruptive”.

It’s not yet known whether Australia could be on the cards, but we’ll keep you updated.
