Laneway Organisers Remain Bizarrely Silent Over Silicon Ousting

Despite the very public brouhaha surrounding New Zealand act Silicon‘s abrupt removal from the Laneway festival lineup, organisers have yet to make a public announcement to fans about his ousting.

Silicon (aka Kody Nielson) was booted off the bill for “kissing a cop’s gun” during his set at Laneway’s Adelaide leg on Friday, and has since been removed from the official timetables listed on the Laneway app for today’s Sydney leg, as well as next weekend’s Fremantle and Melbourne legs (see below).

And while Laneway organisers have responded to Music Feeds’ enquiries indicating that they do not wish to comment on the situation, they’ve refused to actually confirm whether or not Silicon has indeed been removed from the lineup.

Which seems quite bizarre.

Silicon originally took to Twitter to announce that he’d been “kicked out” and “fined” over the gun-smooching incident, which allegedly occurred at Laneway Adelaide’s Future Classic Stage.

Later speaking with Music Feeds, the noir-electronica artist confirmed that he’s since returned to New Zealand while alleging that Laneway told him they “didn’t want he incident to go public”.

“But I feel like at the very least our fans deserve an explanation as to why we just vanished from the lineup,” he said.

Unfortunately for Laneway, it has gone public. And it’s disappointing enough that organisers would fail to disclose a significant change in the lineup to fans (right in the middle of the festival, no less), let alone allegedly try to keep it from them.
