Yolanda Be Cool Drop A Lockout Anthem With Help From Skepta

We’ve read plenty of long, eloquently-written thoughts on the Sydney lockout laws over the past few days but Sydney dance act has managed to sum up the situation in just a thirty second song.

Duo Yolanda Be Cool took to Facebook to share their anti-lockout anthem – a bootleg of Skepta‘s 2015 banger Shutdown.

To be completely honest Yolanda Be Cool haven’t done a lot to the original, mostly just using the Shutdown hook to reiterate the point that venues everywhere are shutting down, like this onethis one, this one, this one, this one and this one .

Before Skepta raps “shutdown” the duo insert the name of iconic Kings Cross venues that have closed since the laws were introduced name-checking Goldfish, Hugo’s Lounge and SOHO Lounge.

It’s a good, light-hearted take on a situation that has gotten pretty heated this week with Alison Wonderland, Flight Facilities and The Preatures all joining the conversation.

Music and dance is now being used as the most powerful force to fight these days. There’s a Footloose Flash Mob protest due to take place on Monday 22nd February at Martin Place. It’s encouraging people to come dressed in acid wash jeans and white tees and dance their way up to the NSW government building to Never by Moving Pictures. Let’s cut loose.
