Hear Jeff Buckley’s Haunting Unreleased Cover Of The Smiths’ ‘I Know It’s Over’

A stunning recording of Jeff Buckley covering I Know It’s Over by The Smiths has just been unveiled as part of a forthcoming collection of the departed musician’s unreleased studio recordings and covers, titled You and I.

Appearing on the album, which is due for release on Wednesday 16th March, the track has also just had a brand video made for it, directed by Amanda Demme and executive produced by Amy Redford, Robert Redford’s daughter.

“When I first heard Jeff, he gave me permission to feel fully and with contradiction,” Redford told Rolling Stone. “He inspired me to fight for authenticity, and to feel confidence in simplicity. To collaborate on these songs coming to life, and to see the community of people who Jeff touched, has been a privilege.”

Not the first unheard cover to resurface recently, Jeff’s renditions of Sly & The Family Stone‘s Everyday People and Bob Dylan‘s Just Like a Woman, having both found their way to fans ears in recent times.

Buckley had always had a penchant for covers, his iconic re-interpretation of Leonard Cohen‘s Hallelujah from Buckley’s classic album Grace proving one of his most enduring recordings.

But enough of me waxing lyrical about my brooding teen crush, check the video for yourself here below.
