Mayer Hawthorne and The County announce Australian tour

Mayer Hawthorne & The County are set to return to our shores in 2011 after making their down-under debut earlier this year, their performances at the 2010 Days Like This Festival wowing audiences, leaving a trail of drooling women in their wake. Bringing some tunes from their hotly anticipated new album, these performances are sure to be some of the sexiest and most soulful of 2011.

Signed to legendary L.A. Imprint Stones Throw (the home of Madlib, the late J Dilla and Sydney’s own Djanimals) by head honcho Peanut Butter Wolf after only hearing a few tracks, Mayer plays the sort of sexy new-school soul that recalls the golden era of soul, transcending time and infecting you so that you can’t help but boogie. “He showed me two songs and I didn’t understand what I was listening to,” Wolf recalls. “I asked him if they were old songs that he did re-edits of – I couldn’t believe they were new songs and that he played all the instruments.”

Having toured relentlessly since the release of his debut late last year, the lead single Just Ain’t Gonna Work having caused stir world wide, grabbing the attention of everyone from Gilles Peterson to Mark Ronson, the live show is now a well tuned and oiled sexy soul machine. With Niche Productions having been inundated with requests to bring him out again after his Days Like This shows, you can be sure these shows will pack out like crazy, so get your tickets early.
