Music Journalist Andrew Stafford Has Made Contact With Loved Ones, Is Said To Be Heading Home

Brisbane music journalist and author Andrew Stafford has contacted a number of people, and is said to be currently on his way home. His family had reported him missing at around 8pm local time last night, before news of his disappearance hit social media.

Tim Steward from Brisbane rock outfit Screamfeeder has taken to Facebook today to say he has spoken with Stafford, who “sounded bruised but ok” and is now returning home. Steward has told Fairfax Media he was unaware of Stafford’s location.

Guardian Australia‘s Culture Editor Steph Harmon says Stafford has also sent her text messages. She says he is safe, has contacted his family and is on his way home. The Age journalist Rohan Connolly also says he’s been in contact with the Brisbane writer.

Stafford’s phone was detected on the Cunningham Highway near Warwick this morning, and there are unconfirmed reports that it was later detected at Gin Gin, near Bundaberg.

Stafford’s friends launched a campaign to find him after a number of concerning statements were posted to his social media pages on Monday, before the accounts were deactivated.

ABC Radio has confirmed that contact has been made with Stafford, although he has not returned home as yet.

Stafford is the author of Pig City: From The Saints To Savage Garden, which mapped Brisbane’s music scene from the 1970s to 2000, and he currently works as a freelance journalist for several publications.
