Tame Impala Have Remixed Miguel’s ‘Waves’ Into A Psychedelic Masterpiece

As a rock band, Tame Impala don’t have much of a history doing remixes for other people, but Miguel entrusted them to remix his track Waves and they have done a mighty fine job.

Miguel’s latest album Wildheart was largely influenced by psychedelic music, so the choice to get Tame Impala to twist the song is not a crazy one. Kevin Parker and co have taken the track to another level of psychedelia, however, layering it with washed-out guitars and woozy, off-kilter synths.

It’s Waves meets Currents as the Perth band have pulled it into the world of sound that dominated their more pop-centred third record.

Somewhat unpredictably, Tame Impala are edging their way closer and closer to the world of R&B. Last month a cover of their track New Person, Same Old Mistakes turned up on Rihanna’s eighth album ANTI.

“I’d love to do something in the future,” Parker told an NME reporter about working with Rihanna at the BRIT Awards where they picked up the gong for Best International Group.

On Rihanna covering the song, Parker said he was “flattered and complimented”.

“It was amazing to hear that song, which I always thoughts had a R&B edge to it… to have it sung by a R&B singer, it got what it finally deserved,” he said.
