The Original Wiggles Are Up For Doing Even More Adults-Only Pub Shows

UPDATE 09/07/16: The Wiggles’ original lineup have announced an 18+ pub show in Melbourne for this September.

Good news Gen Y’ers of Melbourne: you could be getting your very own adults-only Wiggles show.

When the original Wiggles lineup got back together to play their first ever adults-only pub show at Dee Why RSL over the weekend, they weren’t only reuniting with each other, but with all of the now grown-up 90’s kids whose childhoods were shaped by their feelgood tunes and daggy rainbow coloured sweaters.

And Anthony, Greg, Murray and Jeff had such a Romp Bomp A Stompin’ good time that they’re keen to do it all over again in Australia’s live music capital.

Speaking exclusively with Music Feeds reporter Tom Williams, original and still-reigning Blue Wiggle Anthony Field says he’s definitely up for the trip, after their sold-out Sydney gig raised “incredible” amounts of money for war veteran charity, Soldier On.

“The vibe was so great, the original Wiggles fans were so passionate, you can’t help wanting to do it again,” he said.

“I just want to do it again, and do the same thing, make it a charity thing. I reckon maybe head down to Melbourne for the next one. We haven’t booked anything, but everyone after the show was just buzzing. It would be great fun.”

Echoing the same sentiments, The Wiggles shared Music Feeds’ original story covering this weekend’s show on their official Facebook page, promising “We will do our best to do more of these gigs!”

Everybody clap! clapclap

Fans lucky enough to attend the Wiggles’ gig at Dee Why catalogued numerous highlights of the evening through plenty of A+++ footage on social media, including hundreds of rowdy drunks yelling “Wake Up Jeff!” and doing incredible synchronised Wiggles choreography to classics like Can You (Point Your Fingers and Do the Twist?) and Rock-a-bye Your Bear.

“The vibe was just incredible, there was so much love in the room. It was just a great time,” Field said. “You don’t what it’s going to be like when you’re playing in a pub, we’ve never done that before. But there was no violence, there was no agro [laughing]. It was actually just such fun, it was just really fun.”

And despite the Blue Wiggle calling it a bit of an “anticlimax”, for many fans the most incredible part of the night came when Dee Why suffered a suburb-wide blackout, plunging the auditorium into total darkness while The Wiggles were in the middle of Play Your Guitar With Murray (many swear it was the sheer power of Murray’s unstoppable fingerblasting that short-circuited the suburb’s electricity supply).

The crowd began a chant demanding Hot Potato, and The Wiggles returned to the stage to perform an acoustic rendition of the song in total darkness.

EPIC.
