Dave Grohl Delivered An Emotional Cover Of The Beatles At The Oscars

Dave Grohl isn’t nominated for an Oscar Award like most of the performers taking to the stage at the Oscars but he delivered a very moving performance, honouring those in the film world that we have lost over the past year.

The Foo Fighters frontman performed a cover of The Beatles’ Blackbird during the ‘In Memoriam’ segment of the show. He played the acoustic guitar alone on stage as pictures of those that have passed away ran behind him.

The segment paid tribute to Alan Rickman, Leonard Nimoy and David Bowie. As Pitchfork points out, they oddly honoured Bowie with a clip from Zoolander.

Before Grohl took to the stage, he used the Foo Fighters Twitter account to offer his support to Oscar-nominated artist Anohni who was not asked to perform at the awards show.

“This one’s for you, my friend,” Grohl wrote on Twitter.

Anohni, otherwise known as Antony and the Johnsons, penned an open-letter to the Oscars last week critiquing their decision to not ask her to perform and announcing that she won’t be attending the awards. She mentioned being upset when Grohl was announced as a performer despite not being nominated.
