Watch This Muso’s Moving Musical Memorial To All The Sydney Venues Taken By The Lockout Laws

The past few weeks have given rise to a monumental backlash against the NSW government’s lockout laws.

As Sydney-siders continue to mobilise against the nanny state legislation following a 15,000-strong street protest and mass social media smackdown of Premier “Casino Mike” Baird, one muso has taken a moment to remember all of the live music venues that we’ve lost since the 1.30am lockouts and 3am last drinks rules came into effect.

Melbourne singer-songwriter Adam Martin travelled to Sydney to film a live acoustic clip of himself performing his song, Over It, outside a number of once-thriving Kings Cross nightspots, which have since gone to the big live music precinct in the sky.

“In memory of Sydney’s live music scene. You were once the talk of the town, now you’re a shadow of your former self,” Martin captions in the video, before paying tribute to the likes of Hugos Lounge, Soho, Backroom and Goldfish.

The most recent two iconic venues to get the noose – Bar Century and Barrio Chino – don’t appear in the clip.

Still, it’s yet another tragic reminder of how soulless and desolate Sydney’s nightlife has become since the lockout laws were reactively slapped into place two years ago.

Luckily, they’re currently up for review, and you can have your say about the legislation by emailing the NSW Government directly.
