Daddy Cool Guitarist Ross Hannaford Has Died At 65

Ross Hannaford, one of the founding members of Daddy Cool has died at age 65 after a battle with cancer.

The Australian guitarist passed away in Melbourne today only months after playing his final gig and releasing his last album.

Known to many as Hanna, he was childhood friends with Daddy Cool frontman Ross Wilson. Together they played in bands The Pink Finks, The Party Machine and Sons of Vegetal Mother. The latter evolved into Daddy Cool which was their most successful project.

Daddy Cool are best known for their 1971 track Eagle Rock and although they have only released three studio albums, their last being 2007’s The New Cool, they have gone down in Australian history as rock royalty. Appropriately, they were inducted into the ARIA Hall Of Fame in 2006.

Although they officially split in the ’70s, the band came back together for a Tsunami benefit gig in 2005 and then released their last album in 2007. Hanna has also played in bands like Billy T and Mighty Kong.

Last year it became known that Hannaford was suffering from cancer. After the news broke his friends, including Daddy Cool band members, came together to perform at a Hanna benefit gig. He then went onto release another album Hanna and was performing right up until December. His last gig was at Melbourne’s Caravan Club.

The Australian music community have begun to pay their respects to the legendary musician.
