Dr Dre to retire from rap

Speaking to XXL, Dr Dre has announced that he will be retiring from rapping – not producing – after the release of his much anticipated third album Detox. The album, from which he just released single Kush, has been in the works for a long time, the delays seemingly explained by Dre encountering problems when it came to getting on the mic.

It’s been a little tussle in that area, just because of age and being able to identify with the younger audience,” Dre told XXL. “New artists … [can] say some of the things I won’t say… As far as me going into the mic booth, that shit is over,” he explained. “I’m getting older…I’m always going to talent scout and try to find new artists to work with. But, yeah, that’s it.”

A sad state of affairs for those of us who grew up listening to 2001: The Chronic, and The Chronic, not to mention the myriad of over projects his been involved with over the years, but it does make the prospect of hearing Detox next year even more exciting.
