Seattle Police have released new photographs of the Kurt Cobain’s shotgun was ruled to be the firearm Kurt Cobain used to commit suicide in April of 1994. This is the first time the gun has been seen publicly.

The five images show Seattle Police Department Det. Michael Ciesynski holding the shotgun and were taken on or about June 11, 2015. They were the placed on the city’s computer system on March 3, 2016 and released to the public, according to CBS News, in response to a public records act request.

According to CBS, the public reveal of the shotgun images should put to bed conspiracy theories that the firearm had been melted down as an effort by the Seattle Police to hide evidence and cover up a potential murder.

Two years ago the Seattle Police Department reexamined their files on the case of the Nirvana frontman’s suicide in anticipation of the 20th anniversary of his tragic death. At the time, Cold Case Detective Mike Ciesynski said he would be reviewing the case file in anticipation of media inquiries, but was adamant that the case has not been “re-opened”.

As a result of the review, Ciesynski developed and publicly shared rolls of undeveloped film taken at Cobain’s Seattle home on April 8th 1994, the day his body was found. Police again concluded that the images provided no new evidence, and Cobain’s death remained ruled as suicide.
