Red Hot Chili Peppers Working With Radiohead Producer Nigel Godrich On New Album

Following on from the news last month that Red Hot Chili Peppers had enlisted Danger Mouse to produce their new album, it looks like they’ve got long time Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich on to mix it for them.

RHCP Drummer and professional Will Ferrell doppelgänger Chad Smith broke the news by posting this photo of him and Godrich together in the studio to Twitter.

Seeing as though he is mixing it, it’s looks unlikely that we’ll be hearing any Godrich/RHCP fusion. Bummer, I was really looking forward to hearing Flea play slap bass through a modular synth and Anthony Keidis singing with a Kaos Pad.

What the album will feature though is some Danger Mouse and RHCP collaborations. The exciting news was confirmed as Keidis explained to Steve Jones of the Sex Pistols on his radio show recently that the producer insisted the band work on new material together.

“We had written two dozen songs before we got with him. [Danger Mouse] is like, ‘Let’s keep a few of those, but let’s go write all new songs in the studio’.

“We’re looking at each other like, ‘Dude, we kind of already wrote the songs, bro.’ He’s like, ‘No, I like to write new ones in the studio.’ So, in honor of accommodating this new process, we wrote all new songs, and it’s a good thing we did.”

With no other details released so far, there is still no word when we can expect the yet to be titled album, the band’s follow up to 2011’s I’m With You and their first album not produced by Rick Rubin since 1989’s Mother’s Milk.

Anyway for any of you still pining for some Red Hot Radio Chili Pepper Headed fusion though, check out this lil mash up (ahem travesty). Although I should mention Godrich did not work on The Bends or this track and so it’s barely relevant, cringe-worthy and entertaining as it is.
