Kevin Parker sounds like a good bloke: he sings songs, plays guitar, rescues Australian rock music, and even remixes songs from his bandmates’ side-projects.
The bandmate in question is Jay Watson, keyboardist with Parker in Tame Impala and multi-instrumentalist in sister band Pond, who releases solo music under the solo guise of GUM. Parker has remixed the song Anesthetized Lesson, the banger from GUM’s second album Glamorous Damage.
Far from the psychedelic vibes of Tame Impala and Pond, GUM is a synth-tastic electro get up where Watson plays, sings and generally looks fabulous in his video clips. As might be expected, Parker’s remix of Anesthetized Lesson adds a heavy haze to this rather upbeat and playful track.
Watson, speaking to Pitchfork, is rather excited about this remix, revealing that Parker offered Watson his services of re-imagination; “I jumped at the chance”, says Watson, “because I knew he could make it sound wild. He didn’t let me down!”.
