Bernard Fanning Announces New Solo Album

Shortly before his One Night Stand performance alongside Boy & Bear last weekend in Geraldton, Bernard Fanning revealed that the solo album he’s been working on is complete.

The former Powderfinger frontman revealed to triple j that his latest solo effort – which will be his third solo album – was written with the specific intention of getting back to basics when it comes to writing music. “Especially at the moment – I’ve just made a record and that was part of the idea to get back to writing that way,” said Fanning.

Fanning said he moved back to Byron Bay in August last year after spending some time living overseas with his family. Shortly afterwards he started recording music alongside long time Powderfinger producer Nick DiDia. “He and I set up a studio together in Byron Bay, which is at home. We’ve just been working on that since September -a few hours a day; maybe a few days a week,” Fanning told triple j.

Now, after a long slog, the album is finished, and Fanning has even touted a potential release date later this year. “Just did that for the last six months and I just got the mastered, finished version back this morning,” he revealed. “July I think, or August (release date) – ’round about the middle of the year.”
