Motez Has Written An Impassioned Facebook Post About Australia’s “Refugee Crisis”

Adelaide producer Motez has taken to his Facebook on the tenth anniversary of his move to Australia to ask everyone to raise their voices about the “refugee crisis” in Australia.

Motez was born in Iraq and moved to Adelaide in 2006. In 10 years he’s become one of Australia’s most hotly tipped producers remixing everyone from Flight Facilities to Sam Smith and also churning out his own impressive originals.

“While a lot of it was not easy, it was well worth the journey and I am thankful for everything and all the amazing people who helped me and my family feel welcomed,” Motez wrote about his experience in Australia since moving.

“I am saying the above because this comes at a very relevant time, the refugee crisis is still present, it happened to my dad in Woomera and it’s happening to countless other fathers, mothers and even children on Nauru and Manus Island.”

Motez called for people not to see it as political but rather as “an issue about being human AND humane”.

The post further asked people, “to raise their voices in the face of injustice, bigotry and xenophobia, to be informed about the crisis as a whole not only in Australia but around the world and to help those in need who simply cannot “go back where they came from”.”

“I do not believe for one second that Australia as a whole doesn’t welcome refugees because “Real Australians Say Welcome” and I have seen and experienced this first hand.”

In 24 hours the post has already spread far and wide. It’s been liked by over 2,000 people with many of the comments thanking Motez for using his platform to speak about these issues. One Facebook user suggested that he gives some money from his ticket sales to Asylum centre resource organisations to which he replied, “Definitely on the cards for future shows.”

In the post, Motez did ask for people to donate to the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre, an organisation which supports and protects refugees.

He finishes up his national tour in Perth this week and he’s been wearing a “Real Australians Say Welcome” tee by artist Peter Drew throughout.
