US rapper Freddie Gibbs has been arrested in France, just minutes before he was due to take the stage for a gig in Toulouse.
The charges for his arrest result from an alleged rape that took place in Austria, in August last year and as a result a European warrant was issued for the rapper’s arrest. Le Depeche reports that Austrian authorities are in the process of obtaining permission for his extradition to face questioning.
“Freddie Gibbs adamantly denies the allegations that have been levied against by Austrian authorities,” his lawyer told Rolling Stone. “It makes you wonder why it took almost a year for Austrian officials to bring these charges. Freddie will be fighting the extradition request as these are nothing more than trumped up charges.”
Gibbs was forced to cancel his set at Primavera Sound on Friday due to “unforeseen circumstances”, and had also cancelled his show in Vienna late last month due to “transportation issues”.
