Rick Astley Doesn’t Mind If You Call Him ‘Dick Spatsley’

Human punchline Rick Astley is no stranger to LOLs at his expense.

The fanta-pantsed crooner has been copping it sweet since long before the internet was spawned and his 1987 hit Never Gonna Give You Up become the troll’s official anthem.

In fact, here’s a video of him getting slapped in the face by WWE superstar Hulk Hogan circa 1992.

So anyway, at the height of his fame in the late 80s, Smash Hits christened Astley a “singing teaboy” and consistently misprinted his name as “Dick Spatsley”.

But the once-gawky gingernut has consistently copped it like a champ.

Not only has he described the act of rickrolling as “brilliant” and “funny”, he apparently frequently checks into hotels under the name Dick Spatsley #legend

You wouldn’t get this from any other guy.

“I even credited one of the songs I’d written to Dick Spatsley,” he told the BBC. “So Dick has earned quite a bit of publishing royalties over the years, actually.”

Mr. Spatsley actually has a brand new album coming out called 50 (suck it Adele), which BBC have dubbed “a deeply heartfelt collection, inspired by soul and gospel, with Astley playing every instrument himself”.

So as well as being a shithot dancer, a living and breathing human meme and an all-around bossdog, turns out Astley is also one talented AF musician.
