Here’s What’s Happening At The Radiohead Streaming Events This Friday

Following on from Australia’s last minute addition to the proceedings yesterday, Radiohead have announced further details for their upcoming Live From A Moon Shaped Pool worldwide streaming event in support of their new album A Moon Shaped Pool.

Announcing that they “have assembled pre-recorded piped music to be played through the walls of participating locations this Friday,” there’s been even more news after the UK’s Resident, one of the participating record stores, has given Fact a detailed breakdown on what fans can expect to happen on the day.

The day will kick off with “an exclusive audio broadcast of material specially curated by the band as well as a very special 2-hour live set of performances from their latest tour, featuring songs from the new album & favourites from the Radiohead catalogue.” The informant also revealed what gifts prizes the band would be giving away on the day. And it’s quite the treasure trove of swag.

There will be original artwork from collaborator Stanley Donwood for fans to take home as well as some of the actual figurines from the Burn the Witch video clip, screen prints of Donwood’s art for the album and 35mm celluloid prints of the video for Daydreaming, which was directed by Paul Thomas Anderson. The last three will be the first second and third prizes in a raffle on the day, proving that as cutting edge as the band’s marketing has been, at their core they’re all a bunch of ageing geezers.

As for the Australian leg of the event, Mojo Record Bar, Red Eye Records, Lem – Hum On King and Sandy’s Music will be hosting parties in Sydney, and Music Farmers Industries, Beatdisc and Abicus Selections make up the other NSW locations. Meanwhile Thornbury Records in Melbourne and Brisbane’s Jet Black Cat Music will also take part.

Described by the band in a note on the event website as “a unique Radiohead event taking place on Friday June 17 at record stores globally” that “features an exclusive day long audio stream from the band, competitions, instructional artworks and more,” the event is part of the band’s larger marketing campaign around the album. And what a doozy of a campaign it has been.

With the album having been out now for only a little over a month, Radiohead have maintained a steady stream of content to keep potential fans interested. Having already toured the album (at least started to tour it), releasing mysterious daily artwork around it as well as artists’ video interpretations of different songs and not to mention their bizarre merch line of chiffon scarves, the band have more than made up for the silent years between albums.

In the meantime you can check out the video for Daydreaming below, then visit the event site here.
