OXJAM Music Festival Announces 2016 Australian Return

The month-long music festival OXJAM is back for another year, returning this August to raise money for Oxfam Australia’s fight against poverty. The event has now announced the first of its official Aussie ambassadors for 2016, passing the torch to Sydney dance trio Art Vs Science and singer-songwriter Megan Washington.

Last year’s Aussie OXJAM shows saw 12,000 punters attend over 180 gigs, raising thousands of dollars for Oxfam Australia’s A+ work. Now in its second year, OXJAM’s Australian iteration is promising to get even bigger, with hundred of locally-organised music events in the works, including three headline events in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.

What’s more, OXJAM allows anyone to become an OXJAM Gig Maker, so if you think you’ve got the perfect place for a house party, charge your friends entry and raise some serious funds for Oxfam’s work. All the info about how to throw your own OXJAM gig is available on the OXJAM website.

If you need some house party theme ideas, OXJAM 2016’s launch video (below) sees the festival’s Aussie ambassadors compete for the ultimate house party theme, and features appearances from artists like Basenji and Bad Raiders, as well as triple j‘s Matt Okine.

Speaking about the festival, Megan Washington says, “I’m proud to be an ambassador for OXJAM in 2016 alongside the guys from Art Vs Science. OXJAM is a fantastic initiative, aimed at enticing music fans all over Australia to host gigs in the name of fighting poverty. I can’t wait to see what the country comes up with in August.”

OXJAM has been running for almost a decade in the United Kingdom, and has seen support from the likes of Coldplay, Fatboy Slim and Hot Chip in the past. The inaugural Australian OXJAM in 2015 saw performances from acts like Bag Raiders, Cosmo’s Midnight, World’s End Press and Set Mo.

The full lineup for OXJAM Australia’s 2016 launch events will be announced later this month.
