Thundamentals Return With New Single ‘Late Nights’

Thundamentals are back, baby!

The Aussie hip-hop crew featuring MCs Tuka, Jeswon and producers Pon Cho and DJ Morgs have returned with a brand new tune called Late Nights, their first since the release of their acclaimed 2014 album So We Can Remember.

Jeswon describes Late Nights (below) as “a bit of a hopeful jam”.

Late Nights as in celebrating things that go down after dark,” the MC told triple j. “That side of life but also all the late nights you spend on things where you’re able to get to that point to celebrate.”

Late Nights sees Thundamentals pair dark and minimal beats with talk of champagne, ‘carpe diem’ and, of course, wearing sunglasses at night.

What’s more, Late Nights heralds the announcement of a brand new album, which the lads apparently cooked up at Hermitude’s studio.

“The Hermitude guys went overseas and said ‘Do you want to babysit our studio?’ We were like ‘Hell yeah’. So we’ve just been in there tinkering away and this was the first one that we felt polished up in a progressive way from our last album,” Tuka and Jes told triple j.

In the lead up to the release of Late Nights, Thundamentals took to Facebook to condemn the lack of substantial Federal Government support for community radio stations, which the group say helped get them discovered.

“Community Radio is such an integral part of our nations musical culture, and has helped countless artists carve out meaningful careers. So as you can imagine we were saddened to hear these cuts would have such a negative impact,” Thundamentals say.

“Looking back to the early days of Thundamentals, the first radio station to ever support us was our local station, what was then known as 2BLU FM now known as Radio Blue Mountains. They were the first radio station ever to play Thundamentals and in a weird way proved to be the catalyst for us to start recording music in the first place.

“To know that someone else out there saw potential in what we did was a huge moment for us. One EP, three albums and countless national tours later, we are still making the music we love and still feel like community radio supports us. That support has had a big part to play in our bands growth.”

While Thundamentals gear up for their next release, you can catch them playing Aussie arenas throughout August supporting Macklemore & Ryan Lewis.
