Spring King Show Us Manchester’s Best Anthems In Pre-SITG Playlist

Things are now in full swing for Spring King as they progress in leaps and bounds off the release of their debut album Tell Me If You Like To back in June. In a matter of days now, the band will be arriving Down Under to kick off a run of shows with fellow fuzz rockers Beach Slang and a cheeky spot at Splendour In The Grass 2016.

Prior to boarding the flight though, the Kings have bequeathed us with a tapas platter of artists from their hometown Manchester and their anthems for us to get our head around before their arrival.

Time to brush up…

Horsebeach – Let You Down

Firstly, I love the vocals on this track, so low in pitch and reverberant. The guitars are so dreamy on the track and that’s something that is consistent across the album (titled II)…Ryan Kennedy fronts the band, and he’s captured a great feel, it’s a night time burner for me. There’s another great track on that album called Dana which has some lush synths driving the track.

Wu Lyf – L Y F

Wu Lyf (World Unite Lucifer) played for around 4 years, their approach to the music and the industry was quite inspiring for us in the early days of Spring King. They self produced and self released, and in general approached things in an original way. I love the guitar sounds on this track, it’s a slow headbanger with a cool organ sound too. Elle Jaie has a badass vocal sound.

Kiran Leonard – Dear Lincoln

Musical genius hailing from Oldham. He’s around 20 I think. I’ve never had the pleasure of seeing him live YET, but his music is incredible. Dear Lincoln is a great song, the melodies are so addictive, and the arrangement feels so spontaneous.

Pins – Girls Like Us

Here’s an oldie by Pins, off their first album Girls Like Us. They’re local garage heroes who came about in 2011 ish. Anna who plays bass actually went to the same high school as our guitarist Andy! They’re on their second album now (Wild Nights) which is great too. I love the verses in this track, the floor tom and bass guitar have some real raw tones that really work well together.

The Smiths – There Is A Light That Never Goes Out

I’ve gotta have this one on here, it’s a huge teenage memory of mine listening to this song on cassette in my first ever car. It was a real old Peugeot 405 that i’d drive around with my friends. I remember summers driving around to the album (The Queen Is Dead).
