David Bowie’s $17 Million Art Collection Will Tour The World In 2016

A known art connoisseur, David Bowie racked up an art collection worth more than $17 million over his lifetime. Now his collection, which features more than 400 works of art, is set to be auctioned off following his tragic death earlier this year, but not before it is taken on an epic world tour.

Featuring work by Henry Moore, Jean-Michel Basquiat and Damien Hirst, the Bowie/Collection tour will take the massive collection of art to Los Angeles, New York, Hong Kong and London, before it goes under the hammer at Sothebys in London in November 2016.

The collection also includes various pieces of Outsider Art, Surrealism and Contemporary African art, as well as some works by the quirky Italian designer Ettore Sottsass, with Bowie’s eclectic art taste giving the collection an unmatched combination of well-known and much lesser known works.

Sotheby’s chairman Oliver Barker said that Bowie’s collection was “eclectic, unscripted, understated” and “offers a unique insight into the personal world of one of the 20th century’s greatest creative spirits.”

For more information on where and when the collection will be shown, or if you’re keen to get along to the auction and test your bidding chops check out the Southebys website.
